CRYPTO'S NEXT BIG ROTATION: 14 ALTCOINS TO WATCH, THE TOP 20 MARKET LEADERS & THE SHOCKWAVES OF THE 2026 US MIDTERMS
Market outlook | November 8, 2026
The cryptocurrency market is entering a period where patience and capital selection matter more than excitement. Bitcoin remains the biggest source of direction, Ethereum is trying to regain strength, and altcoins are moving through a difficult environment in which some projects are attracting attention while others are struggling to hold their value.
The November 3 US midterm elections have added another major factor. Democrats won control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, creating a divided government for the second half of President Donald Trump's term. This result could change the direction of financial regulation, crypto legislation, technology policy and government spending.
But one thing needs to be understood: a political result does not automatically create a bull market or a bear market. Liquidity, interest rates, institutional demand and actual buying activity will determine whether the market can sustain its next move.
1. Bitcoin and Ethereum: the market's two most important signals
Bitcoin ($BTC) remains the leading indicator for the entire cryptocurrency market. It is trading around the mid-$70,000 area in the latest November 7 market snapshot, with its market capitalization still far ahead of every other digital asset.
Bitcoin's biggest challenge is restoring confidence after the recent correction. Institutional demand, ETF flows and spot-market buying will be more important than temporary futures-driven rallies. If Bitcoin can build a stable base and attract fresh spot demand, it could create room for selected altcoins to recover. If it loses important support, smaller assets could experience another wave of selling.
Ethereum ($ETH) is trading around the low-$2,000 area. Its next move matters because Ethereum supports a large part of the decentralized finance, stablecoin, tokenization and smart-contract ecosystem.
ETH needs stronger demand from both investors and its network economy. Its weaker ETF-flow picture during October is a warning that institutional interest cannot simply be assumed. A sustained recovery in Ethereum could improve confidence across DeFi and related tokens.
The key difference is that Bitcoin is still the market's main liquidity anchor, while Ethereum needs to prove that it can attract stronger demand of its own.
2. The 14 altcoins on our watchlist
These are the 14 assets from our recent trading watchlist. They are not all equally strong, and their price movements should not be treated as proof of long-term value.
Recovery and infrastructure candidates
1. Cyber ($CYBER)
CyberConnect is connected to decentralized social infrastructure. Its recent sharp decline makes it a possible recovery candidate, but the market needs to show that buyers are returning. Watch whether price stabilizes and trading activity improves.
2. Gitcoin ($GTC)
Gitcoin is associated with funding open-source development and supporting Web3 communities. Its recovery depends on renewed interest in its ecosystem and stronger demand for the token. A falling price alone is not a bullish signal.
3. Arcium ($ARX)
Arcium focuses on privacy-preserving computing. Its technology theme is relevant to a market increasingly interested in secure data and confidential applications. However, traders should separate real ecosystem adoption from short-term speculation.
4. Janction ($JCT)
Janction is linked to decentralized computing infrastructure. The broader market has shown interest in projects connected to AI and computing resources. Its long-term potential depends on actual network use, partnerships and demand rather than hype.
5. Filecoin ($FIL)
Filecoin provides decentralized storage infrastructure. Demand for data storage, decentralized applications and AI-related data services could support interest in its ecosystem. The main question is whether network usage can translate into sustainable token demand.
6. Aave ($AAVE)
Aave is one of the established names in decentralized lending. Its position in DeFi gives it a different risk profile from smaller speculative tokens. Growth in lending activity, deposits and protocol revenue could support its long-term case.
Momentum and market leaders
7. Hyperliquid ($HYPE)
Hyperliquid has become an important name in decentralized perpetual trading. Its ecosystem activity and trading volume are important indicators to follow. Strong platform activity can attract attention, but token price can still suffer when leverage and speculation become excessive.
8. Bittensor ($TAO)
Bittensor represents the decentralized AI and machine-learning theme. It attracts investors looking for exposure to AI infrastructure beyond traditional technology companies. Its challenge is proving that network activity and demand can support its valuation.
9. Uniswap ($UNI)
Uniswap remains a major decentralized exchange ecosystem. Its future depends on trading activity, liquidity, competition and the value captured by the token. A stronger DeFi market could improve sentiment around UNI.
10. XRP ($XRP)
XRP remains closely watched because of its payments-related use case, liquidity and regulatory history. Its price can react strongly to institutional news, regulatory developments and broader market sentiment. It still needs sustained demand to build a stronger trend.
11. NEAR Protocol ($NEAR)
NEAR is a smart-contract platform competing in a crowded ecosystem. Its AI and user-focused development themes may attract attention, but adoption, developer activity and network usage are what matter over time.
12. Aptos ($APT)
Aptos is another smart-contract ecosystem competing for developers, users and liquidity. Its recovery depends on whether activity grows enough to stand out among other Layer-1 networks.
Emerging ecosystem opportunities
13. Celestia ($TIA)
Celestia focuses on modular blockchain infrastructure and data availability. The modular blockchain idea remains important, but token supply, competition and actual demand for its services will influence performance.
14. Pump.fun ($PUMP)
Pump.fun is tied to the highly speculative meme-coin market. Its activity can increase rapidly when retail traders become aggressive, but that same market can reverse quickly. It is a high-risk trading asset, not a defensive investment.
The bigger picture is clear: AAVE, UNI, FIL, HYPE and TAO offer exposure to established or widely followed crypto themes, while smaller names such as JCT, ARX and PUMP carry greater project-specific and liquidity risks.
3. Top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization
The following list reflects a November 2026 market-ranking snapshot. Rankings can change as prices and circulating supplies move. It includes stablecoins because market capitalization rankings count them, although stablecoins are not ordinary speculative investments.
Rank| Cryptocurrency| Symbol
1| Bitcoin| $BTC
2| Ethereum| $ETH
3| Tether| $USDT
4| BNB| $BNB
5| XRP| $XRP
6| USD Coin| $USDC
7| Solana| $SOL
8| TRON| $TRX
9| Hyperliquid| $HYPE
10| Zcash| $ZEC
11| Monero| $XMR
12| Dogecoin| $DOGE
13| WhiteBIT Coin| $WBT
14| USDS| $USDS
15| UNUS SED LEO| $LEO
16| Chainlink| $LINK
17| Cardano| $ADA
18| Stellar| $XLM
19| Bitcoin Cash| $BCH
20| Ethena USDe| $USDE
This ranking is a snapshot, not a permanent order. In particular, stablecoins such as USDT, USDC, USDS and USDE are designed to track a reference value and should not be compared with volatile assets as growth investments.
What the major coins tell us
- $BTC and $ETH: The main market direction and institutional-demand indicators.
- $BNB and $SOL: Important ecosystems with exchange, DeFi and application activity.
- $XRP and $TRX: Payments, transfers and transaction-related networks.
- $HYPE: Decentralized derivatives and trading infrastructure.
- $ZEC and $XMR: Privacy-focused digital assets, with regulatory and exchange-access risks.
- $DOGE: A major measure of speculative retail sentiment.
- $LINK: Oracle infrastructure and blockchain connectivity.
- $ADA and $XLM: Established networks competing for adoption and real-world use.
- $BCH: A payments-focused alternative to Bitcoin.
- $WBT and $LEO: Exchange-linked tokens whose fortunes are connected to their platforms.
- $USDT, $USDC, $USDS and $USDE: Stablecoin liquidity and settlement assets.
The top 20 list is useful because it shows where market value is concentrated. However, market capitalization alone does not tell us which coin has the best future return.
4. What the November 3 midterm elections changed
The biggest political development is that Democrats won both chambers of Congress. This creates divided government and gives the opposition party more power to influence legislation, conduct investigations and shape committee priorities.
For crypto, this is important because the industry had been seeking a faster path toward lighter regulation and clearer rules.
Galaxy Research highlighted several consequences of the election: key crypto-friendly lawmakers lost their races, committee leadership is expected to change, and important voices supporting digital assets remain in both parties.
The outcome is therefore not simply anti-crypto or pro-crypto. It creates a more complicated political environment.
Possible effects on the crypto market
1. Crypto legislation could become harder to pass
A divided government can make major legislation more difficult. Bills dealing with digital-asset market structure, exchange oversight and stablecoin rules may face more debate and negotiation.
2. Regulatory scrutiny could increase
Congressional committees may examine exchanges, stablecoins, token issuers, consumer protection and the relationship between government and digital-asset businesses more closely.
3. Bipartisan support still matters
There are lawmakers in both parties who support clearer digital-asset rules. The industry will need cooperation across party lines rather than relying on one political group.
4. Political uncertainty could create short-term volatility
Investors may reduce exposure when they cannot predict the direction of regulation. On the other hand, clearer rules could eventually attract businesses and institutional capital.
The important point is that regulation can slow certain projects in the short term while creating a stronger foundation for the industry over the long term.
5. What happened in traditional markets after the election?
The first market reaction was positive. Reuters reported that US stocks closed higher on November 4 as political uncertainty eased. However, investors also became concerned about tighter restrictions on data-center expansion and AI infrastructure.
This matters to crypto because digital assets increasingly trade alongside other risk-sensitive assets. When technology stocks fall, investor appetite for speculative assets can weaken as well.
AI-related infrastructure, semiconductor companies, energy providers and technology firms may face different effects depending on regulation, government spending and the cost of financing.
For crypto traders, the message is simple: do not watch Bitcoin in isolation. Keep an eye on the Nasdaq, bond yields, the dollar, oil prices and major technology stocks.
6. What is happening beneath the surface of the crypto market?
Coinbase's November 2 research report identified several warning signs from October:
- Spot, perpetual and traditional futures trading volumes declined.
- Options trading activity increased, suggesting more investors were hedging risk.
- US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF flows were negative.
- Altcoin market capitalization fell almost 15% from its September close.
- Altcoin futures open-interest dominance declined throughout October.
These details matter because a price rebound supported mainly by leveraged futures is less convincing than a recovery supported by actual spot purchases.
Gate Research also reported significant October losses across major assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana, alongside large ETF outflows and widespread liquidations.
This suggests that the market has been dealing with more than ordinary profit-taking. Liquidity and risk appetite have been under pressure.
7. What could happen next?
I see three possible paths for the market.
Scenario A: Bitcoin stabilizes and altcoins recover
If Bitcoin holds its major support areas, ETF flows improve and spot demand returns, capital could begin moving toward Ethereum, Solana, DeFi and selected infrastructure tokens.
In this scenario, assets such as $AAVE, $HYPE, $LINK, $TAO and $FIL deserve attention. Smaller altcoins could also rally, but their moves may be much less reliable.
Scenario B: Bitcoin remains weak and altcoins underperform
If institutional demand remains poor and macroeconomic conditions become more restrictive, Bitcoin could struggle to recover. Smaller tokens would likely face greater pressure because they have less liquidity and are more sensitive to sudden selling.
In this environment, protecting capital is more important than chasing every recovery.
Scenario C: A short-lived rally followed by another correction
This is a risk traders should not ignore. Markets can rally sharply after negative news, especially when short positions become crowded. But if spot demand does not follow, the rally may fade.
A strong green candle is not proof that a new bull market has started.
8. The indicators I would watch most closely
1. Bitcoin spot demand: Is real buying returning, or is the move mainly driven by futures?
2. ETF flows: Are institutional investors adding exposure or continuing to withdraw money?
3. Ethereum strength: Can ETH outperform BTC and attract renewed demand?
4. Altcoin market breadth: Are many assets recovering, or only a handful of high-momentum tokens?
5. Stablecoin supply: Is fresh liquidity entering the ecosystem?
6. US bond yields and the dollar: Are financial conditions becoming easier or tighter?
7. Congressional developments: Are lawmakers moving toward practical crypto rules or increasing uncertainty?
These indicators will tell us more than social-media excitement or a list of daily gainers.
9. Final market outlook
The November 2026 market is not a place to assume that every dip deserves a buy. Bitcoin remains the main asset to watch, Ethereum needs to prove stronger demand, and the altcoin market needs broader participation before a sustainable recovery can be trusted.
The midterm elections have changed the political landscape. Democrats now control both chambers, which could make crypto legislation more difficult in the short term. But bipartisan support for digital assets remains, and a clearer regulatory framework could eventually benefit the industry.
My priority list is:
- Market direction: $BTC, $ETH and $SOL.
- DeFi and infrastructure: $AAVE, $UNI, $LINK and $FIL.
- AI and decentralized computing: $TAO, $ARX and $NEAR.
- Trading infrastructure: $HYPE.
- Higher-risk opportunities: $CYBER, $GTC, $JCT, $TIA and $PUMP.
The next major crypto move will not be decided by one election result or one green candle. It will be decided by liquidity, institutional demand, regulation and whether buyers are willing to hold their positions when volatility returns.
The strongest traders will not be the ones who predict every move. They will be the ones who identify where capital is going, wait for confirmation and avoid risking too much when the market is uncertain.
