$GRVT US President Donald Trump hosted a roundtable at the White House on cybercrime, even as he and members of his administration face scrutiny from lawmakers and voters over accusations that they used their positions to enrich themselves with digital assets. Speaking at the roundtable event on Wednesday, Trump said “countless” Americans lost more than $20 billion from cybercrime in 2025 through impersonation schemes, ransomware attacks, scam centers and other methods. The president added that federal officials had frozen $1 billion in “cybercurrency tied to foreign scammers” and prevented $1.6 billion in losses in 2025 from going to criminals engaging in cybercrime following a March executive order. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth (left), President Donald Trump (center) and Attorney General Todd Blanche (right) speaking at the White House on Wednesday. Source: White House Notably, neither the president nor Attorney General Todd Blanche explicitly used the term “cryptocurrency” or “digital assets” when discussing the scams affecting many Americans, despite reports before the roundtable signaling a crackdown on foreign crypto scams would be the focus of the event. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin similarly only referred to “digital extortion.” “Cybercurrency,” the word Trump used, is a dated term for what many people now call cryptocurrency. The Federal Bureau of Investigation reported that Americans had lost $11 billion from scams in 2025 specifically related to digital assets, including through crypto ATMs. Cointelegraph reached out to the White House for comment on the roundtable but did not receive an immediate response. The president and his family are tied to several crypto ventures which Trump reported netted him $1.4 billion in 2025, while his alleged “schemes” cost investors about $4.7 billion, according to a Public Citizen report. His family’s crypto company, World Liberty Financial, also faces scrutiny for its USD1 stablecoin being used to settle a $2 billion investment in Binance by an entity tied to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the United Arab Emirates. Trump’s memecoin project, Official Trump (TRUMP), is hosting another dinner for tokenholders on Nov. 22. Similar events organized by the team behind the memecoin have prompted accusations from lawmakers and interest groups of Trump selling access to the presidency through “pay-to-play” schemes. Italian police arrest 30 people in crypto money laundering scheme The White House roundtable followed reports that Italian authorities arrested 30 people for using crypto to launder millions of dollars through a bank allegedly tied to the mafia. According to Bloomberg, Italy’s police were investigating a criminal network that sent money from corporate fraud, crypto investment scams, and drug trafficking to digital wallets.

Crypto Market Update | October 20, 2026 The crypto market is finally showing some signs of recovery after last week’s volatility. Bitcoin is holding around $82K, trying to stay above a key support zone, while Ethereum is trading near $2,400. The overall market is looking a bit stronger, but we’re not out of the woods just yet. What’s Moving the Market? BTC: Holding around $81K–$82K. Traders are watching closely to see if Bitcoin can build enough momentum for another move up. ETH: Trading near $2,400, with improving sentiment across the market. SOL: Hanging around $104–$105. XRP: Trading close to $1.30. Altcoins Stealing the Show DeFi and Layer-2 tokens are getting some serious attention today. ARB is up around 6–9%, reportedly supported by developments around Arbitrum’s stablecoin growth program. PUMP, PEPE, and several other tokens are also seeing buying interest. Here are a few other stories worth watching What's Happening in Crypto? Metaplanet Expands Its Bitcoin Strategy Corporate Bitcoin accumulation continues to make headlines, with a reported deal involving Metaplanet and Super League. CME Enters DeFi Futures Uniswap futures are making waves as regulated crypto derivatives continue expanding beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. BlackRock's New Bitcoin ETF Filing A proposed Bitcoin ETF focused on downside protection is attracting attention. This could offer investors a different way to gain Bitcoin exposure. Stablecoins Under Pressure World Liberty Financial’s USD1 has reportedly seen significant redemptions, while institutional interest in tokenized assets and stablecoin infrastructure continues to grow. A Few More Things to Keep in Mind US spot Bitcoin ETF flows remain mixed. Crypto hacks caused significant losses during Q3. Market sentiment is hovering around neutral to cautiously optimistic. So, What's Next for Bitcoin? For now, the $81K–$82K zone is the level everyone seems to be watching. If BTC holds this area and buying pressure increases, we could see a move toward $84K–$86K. But if support breaks, a retest of $80K wouldn't be surprising. Of course, nothing is guaranteed in this market. Stay patient, manage your risk, and don't chase every green candle. Your turn! What are you watching this week? BTC breaking toward $85K? ARB and other DeFi tokens? Or a possible pullback before the next move? Drop your thoughts in the comments! 👇 Not financial advice. 🚨 **USD1 LOSES $400M IN 2 WEEKS: PANIC OR NORMAL?** 📉
💵 World Liberty Financial's **USD1** stablecoin has seen its market cap slip from **$4.43B to $4.02B**. Over **$400M** has quietly left the USD1 ecosystem in just 14 days, driven by heavy token burns on **Ethereum ($ETH)** and **BNB Chain**. Headlines like this can scare people, but the details tell a calmer story. 🧐 🔥 **What Are Token Burns in a Stablecoin?** When a stablecoin is "burned," tokens are removed from circulation, usually because holders redeem them for the underlying dollars. Fewer tokens in circulation means a smaller market cap. So a falling market cap does **not automatically mean a crash**. It can simply mean users are cashing out through the normal redemption process. 🔄 ⚡ **Key Takeaways** 1️⃣ 🛡️ **Peg Intact:** There is no evidence of a price crash, and redemptions worked smoothly as intended. A stablecoin that can be redeemed without trouble is passing a real stress test. 2️⃣ 🐋 **Whale Activity:** Over **99% of ETH burns** passed through **BitGo**, while massive **$30M–$50M batches** were processed on BNB Chain. This points to a small number of large institutional-size players moving funds, not thousands of retail users panicking. 3️⃣ 🔍 **Market Focus:** All eyes are now on **reserve transparency** and **upcoming issuer transitions**. Traders want clear proof of what backs the coin and how any changes will be handled. 🟢 **Why This May Be Normal** - 🏦 Large holders often rebalance, move funds between platforms, or take profits. - ⚙️ Big burns in concentrated batches suggest planned treasury or custody operations. - ✅ Smooth redemptions show the system works under pressure. 🔴 **What Still Deserves Attention** - 📉 **Shrinking supply:** If outflows continue for weeks, it could signal fading confidence. - 🧾 **Reserve transparency:** Regular attestations and clear reporting are essential for trust. - 🔄 **Issuer transitions:** Any change in who manages or issues the coin can create uncertainty until details are clear. - 🏛️ **Regulation:** Stablecoins remain under close watch worldwide, and rule changes can shift flows quickly. 🧠 **How Traders Can Respond** 1. 👀 Track the USD1 price against $1 daily, since the **peg** is the real health indicator. 2. 📊 Monitor market cap and burn data for any acceleration in outflows. 3. 📜 Read reserve reports and official announcements from the issuer. 4. 🛡️ Avoid keeping all funds in a single stablecoin. Diversify. ❓ **Poll Time:** Do shrinking market caps concern you if the peg stays solid? 🗳️ Tell us in the comments! Related coins to watch: **$ETH**, **$ZEC**, and **$BTC**. 👇 🧩 **Final Thoughts** A $400M drop sounds dramatic, but with the peg holding and redemptions running smoothly, this looks more like **large-scale redemption activity than panic**. The real test ahead is **transparency**. If reserve reporting and issuer transitions are handled clearly, confidence can hold. Until then, stay alert, not afraid. 💡 ⚠️ *Disclaimer: This article is for educational purposes only and is not financial advice. $GRVT Bo Hines, previously a crypto adviser to US President Donald Trump who later joined stablecoin issuer Tether, reportedly kept a stake in a company that profited from the passage of a stablecoin bill when he was still at the White House. According to a Wednesday report from The Wall Street Journal, Hines had a one-third stake in the investment company he co-founded, Nxum, while pushing US lawmakers to pass the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US Stablecoins, or GENIUS, Act. The legislation reportedly came amid Nxum receiving $6.3 million as part of a deal with stablecoin issuer Tether, behind the USDt (USDT) token, with the first payment going through while Hines was still serving in government. The Wall Street Journal reported that Hines kept in contact with his partners at Nxum, updating them on progress with the GENIUS Act through the Signal app while serving as Trump’s crypto adviser. He also reportedly pressed the Nxum partner to label any Republican lawmakers opposing the stablecoin bill as “undermining the president” and “bought and paid for by democratic shills like Coinbase and a16z.” Hines joined Tether as a “strategic adviser” in August 2025, becoming CEO of its US arm the following month. The reported deal between a former White House official and a crypto company continues to shine a spotlight on accusations that Trump and his family and staff are personally benefitting from laws they help to draft and pass. The president disclosed earning $1.4 billion from investments tied to digital assets in 2025, which included millions of dollars from his family’s crypto company World Liberty Financial, behind the issuance of the USD1 stablecoin. Related: EU lawmakers push crypto onto anti-corruption agenda The GENIUS Act passed Congress and was signed into law in July 2025 in a ceremony attended by many cryptocurrency executives, including those behind stablecoins like Tether and Circle. Hines was in attendance and personally recognized by Trump at the event. Though it was signed into law in 2025, the GENIUS stablecoin bill requires rules from government agencies overseeing the tokens, including the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Federal Reserve Board and Treasury Department. The law is scheduled to go into effect in January 2027. Cointelegraph reached out to Tether for comment on the accusations in the report but did not receive an immediate response. ‘Revolving door’ of US policymakers to crypto companies continues Several figures previously in government have left to become executives or advisers to digital asset companies. In addition to Hines joining Tether, Summer Mersinger, a former commissioner with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), resigned her position three years before her term was scheduled to end for a position as CEO of the crypto advocacy group Blockchain Association. On Wednesday, Solidus Labs announced that Kevin Webb, a former CFTC senior counsel and adviser to former Commissioner Brian Quintenz, would join the fintech company as its vice president of policy. Webb isn’t the first former commissioner at the company, as the CFTC’s Dawn Stump left the agency in 2022 to join Solidus as a “strategic adviser.” Magazine: Can the SEC and CFTC’s pro-crypto rules be overturned?
