Ripple’s David Schwartz addresses XRP criticism after 50% price drop

David Schwartz, chief technology officer emeritus of Ripple and a founding architect of the XRP Ledger, has directly responded to accusations from XRP community members who blame him for the token’s weakening price performance.

Schwartz responds to critics on X

During a recent exchange on the X platform, Schwartz was questioned about his influence on XRP’s market value. One user challenged him by asking if he could truly claim no responsibility for the cryptocurrency’s prolonged decline. Schwartz acknowledged that while he may exert some influence, he considers it to be insignificant.

Schwartz noted that although it’s difficult to say he has zero connection to XRP’s price, his actual impact is minimal and likely negligible in the broader market context.

These comments came amid growing frustration among XRP holders, many of whom are upset about the token’s price, which has plummeted by approximately 50% over the past year, according to CoinMarketCap data.

While XRP experienced brief surges during this period, its general movement has been downward. However, industry watchers point out that this trend is not unique to XRP. Stellar (XLM), another payment-focused cryptocurrency, has followed a comparable trajectory over the same timeframe.

Ongoing tensions in the XRP community

The growing volatility and persistence of negative sentiment have led to increasingly hostile connections on social media. Schwartz described how some users now follow him across discussions on X, labeling him a fraud or openly expressing their discontent regarding his work with XRP.

In response, Schwartz stated that he has started blocking users who derail unrelated conversations to bring up grievances about XRP. He explained that this policy applies indiscriminately; both critics and supporters of XRP may be blocked if their comments appear in inappropriate threads.

He stated that honest criticism or reasoned arguments are welcome, but disruptive behavior that hijacks digital discussions is grounds for a block.

Schwartz offered to rescind blocks for individuals who agree to stop disrupting his social media interactions. The intention, according to him, is to maintain productive public conversations and limit distractions from targeted negativity.

Current role at Ripple

Schwartz clarified that he has stepped back from daily operational duties at Ripple. He now serves as CTO Emeritus and is a member of Ripple’s board of directors, maintaining a formal connection to the company. He continues to meet with Ripple teams twice monthly, offering strategic input without direct involvement in daily operations.

Given the ongoing volatility of XRP’s price, investors are increasingly seeking tools to track real-time movements. For those needing to monitor $XRP during major developments or sudden price fluctuations, CryptoAppsy‘s live charts and smart price s allow users to stay up-to-date without missing key shifts in the market. These features can support proactive responses for traders and community members navigating XRP’s changing landscape.
