Toyota Motor has announced the establishment of a dedicated robotics division, joining the ranks of major global automakers intensifying their efforts in robotics technology development. The division will be led by Chief Production Officer Takefumi Shiga and aims to accelerate the practical application, commercialization, and deployment of robots in frontline production scenarios. The company stated that this move will integrate its robotics-related businesses into a unified organizational structure. Currently, an increasing number of large automakers are betting on robotics technology, with automotive manufacturers hoping to leverage their expertise in manufacturing processes and motion control to establish a competitive edge in the development of humanoid and industrial robots. Hyundai, owner of Boston Dynamics, has positioned its robotics business as a core growth pillar, while Chinese automaker BYD has also signaled investment in robotic systems, reflecting the automotive industry's efforts to expand into fields beyond the traditional vehicle market.
