Williams-Sonoma drops lawsuit against Quince over 'dupe' products

Nov 4 (Reuters) - Williams-Sonoma WSM.N has asked a California federal court to dismiss its lawsuit against online retailer Quince over its alleged "dupes" of Williams-Sonoma products.
The home-goods seller accused Quince of false advertising last year for selling allegedly inferior copies of Williams-Sonoma products while assuring customers that they were "Like Williams-Sonoma, but half the price"
US District Judge Edward Davila ruled against Williams-Sonoma in September after finding that Quince's ads were not misleading, but gave Williams-Sonoma permission to amend its claims
Williams-Sonoma filed a motion to dismiss the case without prejudice on Tuesday, which means it could still be refiled
Spokespeople for Williams-Sonoma did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the filing
Founded in 2018, Quince says its mission is to "create products of equal or greater quality than the leading luxury brands at a much lower price"
"These were serious allegations against a company that's challenging the traditional retail model," Quince head of legal Joel Dion said in a statement on Wednesday. "We stand behind our products, our advertising, and the value we deliver to consumers."
The case is Williams-Sonoma Inc v. Last Brand Inc d/b/a Quince, US District Court for the Northern District of California, No. 5:25-cv-10118
For Williams-Sonoma: Nathan Shaffer of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe
For Quince: Baldassare Vinti of Proskauer Rose
