Warsh: Economy Driven by Consumer Spending, AI -- WSJ
Dow Jones2026/10/28 18:43By Konrad Putzier
In his opening remarks, Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh touted strong economic growth and a healthy labor market, but also warned that inflation is "too high."
"The third quarter appears to have brought an even more rapid" rate of economic growth driven in part by strong consumer spending and business investment, Warsh said. "High-tech investment is leading the acceleration" in business investment, he said. Unemployment is low and payrolls are growing at a healthy pace, Warsh added.
At the same time, he indicated that the Fed isn't yet happy with its progress on the fight against inflation. "It's our responsibility to get inflation down," he said. Credit conditions have tightened since the Fed last raised rates, and yet, he said, "I'm unwilling and unable to call them tight."
