Canada CEOs Fret About Bureaucracy's Ability to Deliver Bold Agenda -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/10/28 11:240723 ET - Nearly two-thirds of Canadian CEOs back Prime Minister Mark Carney's economic plan but hold serious reservations about officials' ability to quickly implement necessary measures, according to a new report from the Business Council of Canada. The council, which represents CEOs at blue-chip companies, says its findings are based on a survey of 100 members. "Our consultations revealed widespread anxiety about the capacity of governments to deliver," the council says in a report published ahead of the release of Canada's annual budget plan. "Fragmented responsibility, overlapping jurisdictions, slow decision-making, too much process and an institutional bias against [making] mistakes were among the reasons cited by members." Carney's agenda focuses on accelerated approvals for major infrastructure and energy projects to help reduce Canada's reliance on US trade for growth. (paul.vieira@wsj.com; @paulvieira)
