JetBlue shares are on a tear Tuesday after the airline assured investors it has the right strategy and enough financial runway to manage higher fuel prices.
"The progress that we are seeing across our business is real," CEO Joanna Geraghty said during the company's third-quarter earnings call. She reiterated the airline's plan to deliver operating profits next year and to reach its earnings target in 2028. "Let me be clear. That is where our intention is," she said.
JetBlue shares had tumbled in recent days as investors became jittery about the airline's long term prospects. They rose nearly 20% Tuesday after the airline reported its third quarter results.
"I think there is a significant disconnect between the narrative in the bond market and what our financial results are demonstrating, but also the financial flexibility we have over the foreseeable future to bridge it to that 2028 EPS goal," Geraghty said.
