04:12 AM EDT, 10/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Astrazeneca (AZN) phase 3 clinical trials have shown positive results in the treatment of stomach and lung cancers, and extended patient lives, the company said on Sunday. The drugs Tagrisso plus Orpathys demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in patient progression-free survival and overall survival versus standard doublet platinum-based chemotherapy in the treatment of certain non-small cell lung cancers, reported Aztrazeneca, to the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress in Madrid, in a study also published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Results for the key secondary endpoint of overall patient survival showed Tagrisso plus Orpathys reduced the risk of death by 32%, versus chemotherapy. Additionally, AstraZeneca's drug Sone-Ve demonstrated a statistically significant and highly clinically meaningful improvement in overall patient survival in the treatment certain advanced gastric cancers, versus investigator's choice of therapy, the company said, in results presented to the European Society for Medical Oncology. In the treatment of gastric cancer, Sone-Ve reduced the risk of death by 42% compared with the investigator's choice of therapy, while median overall survival was 10.6 months for patients treated with Sone-Ve compared with 6.4 months for investigator's choice of therapy, AstraZeneca said.
