CHAR Technologies Gets Final Electrical Approval From ESA for Thorold Renewable Energy Facility

MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/22 14:05
10:05 AM EDT, 10/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- CHAR Technologies (YES.V) received final electrical approval from the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) for the Thorold Renewable Energy Facility in Ontario, to bring the Phase 1 high-temperature pyrolysis (HTP) kiln up to operating temperature, it said Thursday. The Thorold Renewable Energy Facility is jointly owned 50/50 by the company and The BMI Group, it said. The company will fire and run the kiln burners this week, with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) scheduled onsite next week for the final regulatory sign-off and last regulatory step before Phase 1 moves into full commercial production, CHAR said. "The Company remains on the timeline set out in its October 1 announcement, with commercial ramp-up through October and production and revenue increasing through the end of 2026," said CHAR Technologies in a statement. "Phase 1 is designed to produce up to 5,500 tonnes of biocarbon per year for customers including ArcelorMittal Dofasco, which will use it in place of fossil carbon in its steelmaking under its offtake agreement with the Company." The company said Phase 2 will add a second HTP kiln, methanation equipment to upgrade synthetic gas into renewable natural gas (RNG), and an onsite pipeline injection point. The company's shares were last seen down CA$0.005 at CA$0.205 on the TSX Venture Exchange. Price: 0.21, Change: -0.01, Percent Change: -2.38
