TransAlta Closes Stake Sale in Oklahoma Wind Portfolio, Acquisition of Colorado Gas Assets

09:56 AM EDT, 10/22/2026 (MT Newswires) -- TransAlta (TA.TO) closed the sale of a 49% stake in its wind portfolio in Oklahoma to Ares Infrastructure Funds for $305 million, the company said Thursday. The 500-megawatt (MW) portfolio includes the 100-MW White Rock West, 200-MW White Rock East and 200-MW Horizon Hill wind facilities. TransAlta will use the proceeds to strengthen its balance sheet and support growth opportunities. TransAlta also completed the acquisition of Mountain Peak Power and Canyon Peak Power from Blackstone for $1 billion. The deal includes the assumption of $750 million of senior secured project level debt. The transaction includes two new, fully-contracted natural gas-fired peaking facilities totaling 318 MW near Denver, Colorado. TransAlta shares were last seen down CA$0.41 to CA$18.30 on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Price: 18.32, Change: -0.39, Percent Change: -2.08
