Commmerzbank Says Brent Oil Prices Rise, US Equity Futures Edge Higher, Euro Slightly Weaker

06:18 AM EDT, 10/21/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Brent crude rose above $110 per barrel, US equity futures edged up and most Asian equity markets traded higher early Wednesday, according to Commerzbank Research in a note. President Donald Trump said oil prices would fall once the war with Iran comes to an end, adding that things were going "very well" with Tehran but that he still needed to decide on the next steps, wrote Commerzbank. Iran's security chief said the country wouldn't enter negotiations until the US restored trust, telling Pakistan there was "nothing new to say." According to Iranian news agency Tasnim, President Masoud Pezeshkian believes the US would attack Iran again if Tehran agreed to negotiate. European Central Bank Chief Economist Philip Lane said the ECB's Eurosystem repo facility for central banks (EUREP) could deliver a "strong positive impact" on the euro-denominated bond market, potentially incentivising investors to increase their holdings of longer-dated debt. French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu called political party leaders to crisis talks at Matignon, the bank said. Policymaker Megan Greene cautioned that wage disinflation had stalled, stressing that the Bank of England must remain alert to the risk of second-round inflationary pressures. Orders for Italian government bonds totaled 3.98 billion euros on the second day, including 2.9 billion euros for BTP Valore and 1.1 billion for BTP Insieme. Cumulative demand reached 8.6 billion euros, trailing the 9.5 billion euros average recorded by previous issues over the same two-day period, added Commerzbank. The euro weakened slightly.
