Axcelis to Build $35 Million Chip Equipment Plant in South Korea

09:36 AM EDT, 10/20/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Axcelis Technologies (ACSL) will break ground on a $35 million factory in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, to manufacture ion implantation equipment for chipmakers, the company said Tuesday. The site adds about 200,000 square feet to the company's existing South Korean operations and will hold cleanrooms, a warehouse and a training center, the company said. Production is due to begin in H2 2028, Axcelis said. Shares of the company were down 2.3% in early trading.
