Sector Update: Consumer

01:08 PM EDT, 10/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were mixed Monday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) decreasing 0.6% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) rising 1.7%. In corporate news, Silgan (SLGN) and American Industrial Partners will acquire Dutch metal packaging products manufacturer Trivium Packaging, creating a $7.3 billion global metal packaging supplier for the food and beverage markets. Silgan shares jumped past 7%.
