Disc Medicine Says Metabolic Disorder Drug Meets Main Goal in Phase 3 Trial; Shares Rise Pre-Bell

07:39 AM EDT, 10/19/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Disc Medicine (IRON) said Monday its experimental therapy, bitopertin, met all primary and secondary endpoints in the phase 3 trial in patients with erythropoietic protoporphyria , including X-linked protoporphyria, a genetic metabolic disorders. The company said Bitopertin reduced metal-free protoporphyrin IX levels in whole blood by 41.4% versus placebo and increased average monthly time spent in light without pain by 12.2 hours in month six. The treatment also reduced phototoxic reactions and increased cumulative time in light without pain compared with placebo, the company said. Disc Medicine said patients reported improvements in quality of life, and the treatment was generally well tolerated. The company said it plans to resubmit a marketing drug application to the US Food and Drug Administration by the end of 2026, with a decision expected by mid-2027.
