01:44 PM EDT, 10/16/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar turned down against the loonie on Friday afternoon as 10-year Treasury yields look set to end the week lower. The greenback was last seen down 0.2% at CA$1.4155, its first weekly decline since early September. The 10-year US Treasury yields edged up 2 basis points to 5.106% while 30-year bonds were up 1.5 basis points to 5.443%. The slightly weaker dollar boosted the price of gold: Comex gold futures for December advanced 0.2% to $4,180.10 per ounce. Oil prices were higher as fighting in the Middle East continued. The International Energy Agency also warned in a report published on Wednesday that oil shortages would persist into 2027. West Texas Intermediate November futures benchmark climbed 2.8% to a four-week high of $100.71 per barrel. December Brent crude futures jumped 3.3% to $109.37 per barrel, the highest level since May.
