US Dollar Turns Lower Against The Loonie As Bond Yields Decline

MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/15 17:46
01:46 PM EDT, 10/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US dollar turned down against its Canadian counterpart on Thursday afternoon as 10-year Treasury yields edged lower. The greenback was last seen down 0.3% at CA$1.4186. The 10-year US Treasury yields edged down slightly to 5.089% while 30-year bonds fell to 5.425%, amid reports from several media outlets that investors were shunning technology and AI company stocks for US bonds. The US dollar was higher earlier in the session, buoyed by this week's inflation data that raised expectations of higher interest rates in the US. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics released data showing that the producer price index jumped to its highest level in nearly four years, to 6.3%. The index climbed 1.3% month on month in September. The data added to the higher US September inflation data that was released yesterday, which showed annual inflation rose to 3.7%. Comex gold futures for December rose 1.5% to $4,170.70 per ounce. Oil prices were mixed as fighting in the Middle East continued. The International Energy Agency warned in a report published on Wednesday that oil shortages would persist into 2027. West Texas Intermediate November futures benchmark jumped 3% to $97.92 per barrel. December Brent crude futures edged down 0.2% to $105.83 per barrel.
