Update: IEA to Speed Release of Final 100 Million Barrels in Crisis Response

10:45 AM EDT, 10/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with details throughout from the IEA.) The International Energy Agency agreed to complete the remaining releases of about 100 million barrels of oil, consistent with the March collective action in response to the Strait of Hormuz crisis. The agency said some members have released more oil than initially pledged in March, while others intend to do so, bringing total planned volume to more than the original 400 million barrels. The IEA said it will accelerate the remaining releases, including more than 20 million barrels of diesel as soon as possible.
