S&P/TSX Composite Index Turns Higher Mid-Morning as Healthcare, Telecommunications Shares Jump

10:34 AM EDT, 10/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The S&P/TSX Composite Index, which opened lower Thursday morning, turned positive mid-morning as shares in the healthcare and telecommunications sector surged. The healthcare sector was the strongest performer, gaining 3%, while telecommunications shares rose 2.9%. Shares in the base metal sector posted the biggest decline for the second straight day, as copper prices fell. The sector dropped 2.2% as copper prices declined 1.9% on last look, as higher US consumer price index data for September, released Wednesday, raised the odds of more interest rate hikes, and consequently, reduced economic activity. The US producer price index also jumped 6.3% for the 12-months ended September. The index was up 1.3% month on month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said today. In stocks, ADF Group (DRX.TO) was up 9.7% on last look, at CA$16.41 per share after it said it had signed CA$82 million worth of contracts in Canada and the US.
