Dollar Stays Lower After Slew of U.S. Data -- Market Talk
Dow Jones2026/10/15 13:121312 GMT - The dollar remains weaker even after better-than-expected U.S. retail sales data and higher-than-forecast U.S. wholesale inflation figures. Retail sales rose 0.8% on month in September, above the 0.4% increase expected by economists in a WSJ survey. The producer price index rose 1.3% month-on-month in September, well above the 0.6% forecast. It follows Wednesday's higher-than-expected U.S. consumer price inflation data. Meanwhile, U.S. weekly jobless claims came in slightly lower than forecast. However, concerns about hefty corporate borrowing to fund AI infrastructure investments are dragging Treasury yields lower along with the dollar. Federal Reserve officials Mary Daly and Michelle Bowman also signaled no urgency for further tightening. The DXY dollar index falls 0.4% to 102.099, little changed from levels before the data.
