Canada's Manufacturing Sales Advance as Expected in August on Primary Metals for Technology Sector

MT newswireMT newswire2026/10/15 13:10
09:10 AM EDT, 10/15/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Canadian manufacturing sales grew 1.5% monthly to CA$79.9 billion in August, reversing the previous month's 0.3% drop, with primary metals leading the recovery, Statistics Canada said Thursday. August's rise was slightly higher than a 1.1% monthly consensus increase provided by a Bloomberg survey. Manufacturing sales volumes were flat on the month, while the Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI) increased 1.3%, the agency said. Year over year, manufacturing sales increased 14.2%. Non-ferrous metal production and processing, excluding aluminum, led the monthly gains, buoyed by rising global demand for copper, silver and other metals as electrification advances, renewable energy investment expands and demand for advanced technology applications grows, added StatsCan. Total inventories rose 0.2% to CA$127.7 billion, extending the steady increase seen since January 2026, while the inventory-to-sales ratio declined to 1.60 from 1.62 in July, indicating the number of months needed to clear existing stocks at the current pace of sales. Unfilled orders held steady on the month at CA$134.2 billion.
